Our Work

Our Mission: To empower the local youth community through equal opportunities and creative learning.

It is the right for every child to stimulate the growth of their minds, regardless of their background.

It all started with Amiyah Chowdary.

During the summer of 2021, Sophia Lee virtually volunteered as a youth tutor for World Relief and ended up pairing with Amiyah. Wondering about the unfolded chain of paper clips in the background, Sophia inquired about it. To her surprise, the chain was Amiyah's makeshift crochet hook.

The interaction sparked a revelation within Sophia as she realized the widespread struggle immigrant children experience when lacking the money to pursue their passions. Taking matters into her own hands, Sophia started with her local community, founding Flora to help District 204 children like Amiyah get the chance they deserve to finally be kids.

Did you know?

According to UNESCO, the right to have an education for many immigrant children "is challenged daily in classrooms and schoolyards and denied outright by a few governments."

It is our mission to fix that. Starting here at Flora.
